Sorrento Cloisters Italy Destination Wedding Photography.

Emily and Michael contacted me after seeing photographs I took of their friends wedding on Facebook. I have never met such a chilled out couple, so relaxed in fact, that I only met the day before their wedding once I had landed in Italy! This couple like to go travelling all over the world and so it made complete sense to them to have their wedding in one of their favourite places, Sorrento in Italy. I was overjoyed to be flown out to shoot their destination wedding. They stayed at the Grand Hotel Royal and I joined Emily, her best friend and her Mum on the morning of the wedding. I think it is fair to say that both excitement and emotions were running high. Emily’s Mum was overcome with emotion that her daughter was getting married and the tears were flowing freely (along with the champagne!). It was beautifully warm outside with a cool breeze from the coast. There is nothing quite like the light golden Italian sunshine.

The ceremony itself was held at San Francesco Cloisters which is a place soaked in history with marvellous 14C architecture. The light sandy stone arches contrasted with the rich greens of the flowers, plants and ornamental trees. In Italy, by law anywhere you get married has to be open to the public and so as Emily and her entourage arrived in the car, a crowd of tourists had gathered to watch proceedings. Emily is such a happy person and a smile rarely leaves her face. Her and Michael beamed throughout the sweet, short ceremony and giggled throughout as they said their vows.

After the ceremony, everyone was treated to a champagne reception at La Villa Bar, overlooking the bay of Sorrento. In the distance you can see Mount Vesuvius towering above the ocean, with the poignant town of Pompeii only a short distance away. After the drinks we walked through the idyllic cobbled streets to O Parruchiano, a world famous restaurant where the popular Italian dish Cannelloni was originally invented for the wedding breakfast. The restaurant was simply stunning! Lemon trees filled the restaurant and as the sun set, twinkling fairy lights sparkled amongst the branches making the atmosphere so pretty and romantic. The food was, as expected, out of this world!

Finally, as the evening turned into night, Emily and Michael took their guests to a club overlooking the sea for some much needed dancing and merriment!
