Mathern Palace Elopement

Martin & Emma | Mathern Palace | South Wales

Martin and Emma tied the knot at Mansion House registry office in Newport followed by a small intimate reception at Mathern Palace, South Wales. They are good friends of mine. Martin I know from working with him on weddings, as one of his companies is White Rose Wedding Films we work really well together and I love his relaxed style and he is a good laugh and great company on a 10 hour wedding day!

Over the last few years, we’ve become a lot closer through different experiences and it was a true privilege to be asked to be their secret wedding photographer. They have a large circle of friends but the idea of having a large ceremony and reception didn’t appeal to them, Emma didn’t like the thought of being the centre of attention (or huge amounts of planning!) and so the idea grew that they would have a small, secret and intimate elopement with just immediate family there. The planned to surprise their friends that very evening with a funny photograph of them with their rings (spot the photo below) who would find it hilarious.

The day was beautiful. A sunny, fresh and bright September day. It was just as they’d hoped, very relaxed – so relaxed the Best Man forgot the button holes so they had to borrow the Mum’s! The ceremony was incredibly sweet and tender. Despite attending hundreds of weddings as a videographers I am sure I detected some nerves in Martin. Afterwards everyone headed to Mathern Palace for drinks and an afternoon tea. Mathern Palace is Wales’s best kept secret wedding venue – I am hoping it stays that way as it has a certain feeling of exclusivity about it, with the gorgeous sprawling grounds and fantastic interiors. The owners are very attentive and make you feel at home.

Martin and Emma plan to have a large party for all extended family and friends at a later date. This is their story:
