2016 in Wedding Photographs

A year in review

This year and its significance has had a lot of sad press, however, when you take photographs of people in love for a career then this is easily put into perspective. People will often say, “what a lovely job you have photographing people on their happiest day” and this couldn’t be more true. I simply love my clients and all the wonderful people I get to meet. They laugh at my horrendous jokes, sneak me drinks of gin, make me do my David Brent on the dancefloor but more than that; they become my friends. Most of the time I am a shadow. I weave in and out of moments, catching those stolen kisses and bear hugs that only man-friends do. I encourage real love to show on camera as well as passion and desire. It’s hard to leave a wedding sometimes as I feel so close to the people I have seen through my lens all day. I love what I do. I think it shows.

It’s been a year of firsts for me, I shot not one, but two secret elopement weddings, I photographed a boudoir session as a pre-wedding gift to her husband to be, I wrote an ‘Open letter to vicars’ which kind of went viral and took on a life of its own. I won SIX International Wedisson Awards over the course of the year and most recently one a much sought-after Masters of Photography award. I’ve been featured in various blogs this year including Love My Dress and Rock and Roll bride.

My couples have had their own share of fun and magic; there was Arnaud who made his own wedding cake and later in the year was a finalist on Master Chef The Professionals (well-done that man!),  one surprise pregnancy announcement, that time a school choir came to sing at the wedding, the first time I shot another photographers wedding and it totally rocked, that amazing walk across a pembrokeshire beach, that time the cake collapsed and the preparation venue was evacuated due to a fire, that wedding with the dog and the horse, when we went running through wheat fields, possibly the wettest wedding ever and the couple who kissed under a stained glass window in the woods…. and so much more! I have yet to blog some weddings as it’s been a crazy Christmas season!

Here is a year in photographs.
